Our Journey Forward
Neighbourhood Network is evolving – expanding our vision, deepening our impact, and stepping into a new global chapter as Magna in Action.
Founded in 2008 to meet local needs during a time of limited resources, Neighbourhood Network has helped communities grow stronger, supporting over 500 charities, engaging nearly 23,000 volunteers, and partnering with six municipalities to multiply community giving across York Region.
While our operations will look different moving forward, Magna’s commitment to making a difference in people’s lives — and the world around us — remains unwavering. Starting October 1st:
- Volunteer opportunities, community events, and a new scholarship award for student volunteers will be available through Neighbour Media enabled by additional funding support from Magna.
- Charitable partners can access dedicated resources and events through the Central York Chamber, which remains a key community partner of Magna’s.
- Sponsorships and donations will continue to be available through Benevity.

“We were honoured when Magna approached us to continue Neighbourhood Network’s mission of promoting volunteerism and celebrating volunteers. We already highlight all the good happening in our community through our print and digital platforms. Connecting people directly to causes that need their support is a natural next step — opening the door for more people to become good neighbours.”
— Lynnette Lanning, Co-Founder, Neighbour Media
“Charities, no matter the size, operate with the same drive and strategy as businesses. The Chamber’s strength lies in connection, growth, and leadership development. We’re excited to extend this to our local non-profit sector — helping these organizations thrive with the same tools and support that fuel business.”
— Chris Emanuel, President & CEO, Central York Chamber
“Aurora and the surrounding municipalities in York Region are stronger today because of critical philanthropic investments, programs and services, and volunteer efforts from Magna. On behalf of my fellow mayors, I want to thank Magna and the Neighbourhood Network team for being such a vital part of our communities.”
— Mayor Tom Mrakas, Town of Aurora
