About the Organization:
York Region Food For Learning (YRFFL) is a diverse community partnership dedicated to supporting breakfast and snack programs in schools.
Position Overview:
The Treasurer is a key member of the YRFFL Committee and is responsible for overseeing the financial management of the group. The Treasurer works closely with the Committee and the Committee’s payment transfer agency to establish and maintain sound financial practices and controls.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management and Oversight
- Work with payment transfer agency to prepare and present financial reports to Committee.
- Ensure the preparation of annual budgets in collaboration with the Committee.
- Review and approve financial transactions.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure YRFFL complies with all applicable laws, including those related to non-profit financial reporting requirements in Ontario.
- Ensure that financial controls and internal policies are followed to prevent fraud and ensure the organization operates ethically.
Fundraising and Financial Strategy:
- Support the fundraising team (if applicable) by providing financial insights and ensuring proper tracking of donations and grants.
Banking and Financial Transactions:
- Maintain YRFFL’s bank accounts and oversee any bank reconciliations.
- Approve and process payments.
Policy Development and Guidance:
- Assist in developing financial policies and procedures for YRFFL to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge and experience in financial management and accounting, particularly in a non-profit context.
- Familiarity with the legal and regulatory requirements for non-profit organizations in Ontario.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, track expenses and generate financial reports.
- Experience with basic accounting software or spreadsheets.
- Previous experience in a Treasurer or finance-related role within a non-profit or community organization is an asset but not required.
