Volunteer Board Members
The Women’s Centre of York Region is currently seeking candidates for the Board of Directors. The
Board of Directors is responsible for the strategic oversight of WCYR operations.
The WCYR offers unique programming and services that address a range of circumstances, to women
who are in need of positive change. Our goal is to fully support each woman on her personal journey of
discovery, encouraging her to fully thrive.
We require 2 Directors; 2 unique skill sets as outlined below:
1. One with a strong legal background
2. One with significant volunteer and fundraising/community engagement experience in the not-for-profit
charity sector.
It is critical that applicants demonstrate ability and experience in broad based thinking and be able and
willing to contribute to all aspects of the WCYR Board of Directors. It is imperative that potential
candidates have a passion for our organization. Please thoroughly review the website: www.wcyr.ca.
The board must act within the law. A board member must follow three basic principles:
1. Diligence. Act reasonably and in good faith. Consider the best interest of the organization and its
members.
2. Loyalty. Place the interest of the organization first. Don’t use your position to further your personal
interests.
3. Obedience. Act within the scope of the law. Follow the rules and regulations that apply to the
organization
