Are you passionate about conserving nature? Do you want to learn about environmental topics like wildlife, ecology, ecosystem restoration and invasive species? Do you want to do something fun outdoors this summer while completing your volunteer hours?
Homegrown Society is seeking enthusiastic Neighborhood Stewards to take part in our outdoor programs this summer and fall in Aurora.
About Us
Homegrown Society delivers nature-based programs that engage communities in environmental stewardship. Our aim is to deepen relationships with nature and place through environmental education and stewardship.
We strongly believe in the power of neighborhood stewardship to protect and restore nature. By upholding a community science approach to land management, we strive to generate knowledge and tools that can be used to inform collaborative conservation decisions.
We believe that young people should be able to shape the landscapes they will inherit. Will you join us in making our neighborhoods a greener place for future generations?
Project Overview
As a Neighborhood Steward you will take part in engaging nature events in Aurora. You will learn about the natural world with others by visiting our stewardship properties – totalling over 130 acres in the Aurora Highlands.
Neighborhood Stewards will take part in invasive species removals while learning valuable field skills like species identification, orienteering and navigation. You will develop your understanding and awareness of nature while experiencing unique wildlife encounters. You are sure to form connections with other nature-minded folks and with the landscape.
A moderate level of effort is required, walking over uneven terrain, bending, some lifting, but we take it pretty chill too. Expect to be spending time outdoors (yes… sometimes in the rain ).
Our events run May – November. Events typically happen on Saturdays. You will be contacted before hand to confirm availability!
