Kitchen Volunteer

The kitchen is the heart of Margaret Bahen Hospice.  The Hospice has opportunities for kitchen volunteers to join our team.  Kitchen volunteers bake treats (muffins, cookies, squares etc.) from scratch and prepare snacks for residents, their family members, and visitors as well as assist with the daily maintenance of the kitchen.

Residents, family members and visitors benefit from the snacks which provide comfort and nourishment and enable visitors stay with their loved one for longer periods of time.

Qualifications:

  • Experience baking and cooking from scratch
  • Knowledge of recipes
  • Empathetic to people who are living at end of life and their family members
  • Good communication and active listening skills
  • Respectful of people with diverse backgrounds, their values, and life circumstances
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate an asset but not required. Training will be provided.

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per week. Shifts are Saturday and Sunday  8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 12:00 to 4:00 pm

Requirements

  • Participate in mandatory training:  Introduction to Hospice Palliative Care course and orientation
  • Provide clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check and references
