Call for Candidates – Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation Board of Directors 

Founded in 1973, the Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation (LSCF) is a registered environmental charity working to help protect and conserve the land and water of the Lake Simcoe watershed. The mission of LSCF is to raise funds for the incredible work of Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. LSCF is certified in Imagine Canada’s Standards Programs for excellence in non-profit management.

Roles and Responsibilities of Board Members

We are looking for individuals whose skills, passion and experience align with the LSCF’s mission, guiding principles and strategic priorities.

The LSCF Board of Directors is a volunteer board that provides strategic leadership, governance and oversees the operational and financial performance of the Foundation. Members of the Board bear a fiduciary duty to LSCF, its mission and its supporters. Board Members have the option to serve on one or more standing/ad hoc committees such as Executive, Finance, Nomination and Funding, or on various event committees. In pursuing their duties of care, diligence and loyalty, members are expected to come prepared for meetings, ask questions, actively participate in events and fundraising.

Major Responsibilities

  • Fulfill governance and stewardship role to ensure the long-term success of the organization
  • Promote the organization and its mission in the community at large and build new supporters
  • Engage with key stakeholders including funders, partners, donors, and supporters
  • Adhere to the bylaws, policies, and purposes of the LSCF as set out in the articles of incorporation
  • Help the Board carry out its fiduciary responsibilities including approval and oversight of the annual budget
  • Ensure that the resources entrusted to the Foundation further the goals of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority

 Expected Commitment from Board Members

  • Attend bi-monthly Board meetings from approximately 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in Newmarket ON (in person), including the Annual General Meeting in May.
  • Able to commit the time and resources to serve on the Board.
  • Represent LSCF in the community.
  • Can serve for 2 consecutive three-year terms.
  • President, Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer are elected annually at the AGM.

  • Communications, public relations, and advocacy
  • Collaboration
